We attended the Press Briefing at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and were amazed at the transformation. Click on the link to our report and learn what you’ll see if you visit one of the most popular sites in Washington D.C.

We attended the Delmarva Birding Weekend and enjoyed fair weather and a modest number of birds and water fowl. What struck me was how nice birding people are. As we were all leaving the battery in our car was dead – really a goner – and it took no time for a friendly birder to help. Gene opened the hood to our car, our helper drove his car next to ours, popped his hood and hooked up his jumper cable to our dead battery. That’s all it took. We were very grateful to a nice guy from Massachusetts. Here’s a link to what we learned about bird walk etiquette.
Always Looking Through Binoculars
We’re Gene and Katie Hamilton, the creators of BringBinoculars.com and we’re happy to have you join us. We’ve been using binoculars and writing about them for as long as we can remember. As boating and travel writers we’re authors of Coastal Cruising Under Power (McGraw Hill) and Practical Boating Skills (Hearst Marine Books). And we’ve written hundreds of magazine articles along the way.
Over the years we’ve been owners of five boats: three sailboats, one trawler and one downeast cruiser. On all of those boats we’ve been stargazers. First using a sextant to pinpoint our location, then to binoculars to find our way or get help from a dock hand hailing us where to find our assigned dock. But mostly just enjoying the zillions of stars in the night sky you can see from the water.
To see stars under skies all over the country we took to the roads in an RV with a telescope to attend star parties and have visited the night skies from the Florida Keys to Canada. Star parties draw hundreds of binocular and telescope users from all over the country and here’s a story about what we learned attending a star party etiquette.
We’ve always used binoculars at home often stored near the window or deck so we can spot birds at a feeder or in the distance. We learned there are many places where you can find birding in your neighborhood which we wrote about in this link.
Katie is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA).
Our other interest is home improvements so we’re long-time syndicated columnist for Tribune Publishing. We’re also authors of Home Improvement for Dummies© (Wiley) and Fix It and Flip It (McGraw Hill).
BringBinoculars.com is the third website we’ve built. The first two – Housenet.com and diyornot.com – are about home improvements.
Today we’ve grown to realize and appreciate the many uses and benefits of binoculars in all our travels and interests, so we decided to share what we’ve learned with you and others at bringbinoculars.com.
We’d like to hear how you use binoculars, so please share your comments, suggestions and ideas with us at mail@bringbinoculars.com.
